How to care for your mohair tack

Remove any leather tugs if necessary.  Gently remove any stickers, burrs, mud or debris from your piece.  Fill a bucket with tepid or cool, sudsy water.  Use a mild shampoo (something you'd use on yourself or your horse. Remember, mohair is HAIR). If the low spots of your cinch have filled in with horse hair, leave the horse hair, as it levels out the surface next to the horse and becomes more comfortable. (Additionally, the ideal time to break out a new cinch is early spring while your horse is shedding).

Slosh your piece around or let it soak until the sweat, salt and dirt are loosened. rinse very thoroughly with cool water until water runs clear.

Lay flat to dry, out of direct sunlight.

Do your best to keep away from mice, moths, teething puppies and thieving family members. With proper care, your mohair tack will last for years.
